In this story, we learn how Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson come together. If you are a fan of the PBS series, "Sherlock," you'll find this portion of the story to be similar to what you've seen. However, the rest of the book has interesting differences. In the book, there are 2 crime victims; but the series has 3, all of whom are poisoned; in the book, only one is. The book is divided into 2 parts. At the end of part one, Holmes has nabbed the criminal, then, suddenly, part 2 begins. At first, part 2 seems to be an incongruent discourse on the founding of Salt Lake City, Utah. As the story in part 2 develops, the characters in this part have familiar names--part two is the backstory for the crime committed in part one. Part two actually read more like an historical novel, rather than a mystery, but was, nonetheless, rather riveting. Also, as CPTV has been re-running the "Sherlock" series, it's fun to see the creative story differences between Conan Doyle with his original work, and Moffat & Gatiss's modern twist on PBS.   Catalog

This YA series is the basis for the ABC Family tv show. The story centers around 4 teenage girls who lost a close friend and are now being stalked/ tormented by an anonymous person, or group of people.
Overall, they are an enjoyable read. There are, as always, many things that had to be changed to put it on TV, but I think all the changes were good. It also makes it more fun to read the books and watch the show because you don't know whats going to happen.  Catalog

I loved this historical fiction novel. Set during the time period of Ancient Rome, the story follows the life of a young woman who has visions. It was interesting to follow her as she becomes more confident and aware of who she is. The reader also follows the character development of an explorer, who is a love interest of the main character. It would be a great book for the beach if it was a paperback!   Catalog
