Many women fought against getting the vote in the early 1900s, but none with more charm, prettier clothes - and less logic - than the fictional speaker in this satiric monologue written by pro-suffragist and Unitarian minister, Marie Jenney Howe. Join us as we gather in the parlor in 1912, eight years before women got the right to vote, and listen to Mrs. Harry Horatio Hemmenway as she expresses her distain in allowing women the right to vote. Who will wash the dishes?
The performance is presented courtesy of New Jersey's The East Lynne Theater Company, a professional company that explores the world of our ancestors in its productions and performed by Michele LaRue. Ms. La Rue tours nationally with a repertoire of one-woman shows.
Reviewers have called this production "wicked" in its wit and have labeled Michele LaRue's performance "side-splitting."
