AuthorsLive will present Beatriz Williams on Tuesday, June 4 at 7 pm in the Cole Auditorium. Greenwich resident Williams's debut novel Overseas became an international bestseller, turning cynics into romantics.
Williams probes classic themes of steadfastness and selflessness in A Hundred Summers, a brilliantly conceived Depression-era tale about love lost and found and the high price paid for guarding secrets.
In A Hundred Summers, Williams mines a devastating event 'the great New England hurricane of 1938' as she recreates the rigid class distinctions and glittering glamor of New York's upper crust. At the center of her story is New York socialite Lily Dane and her ex-best friend, Budgie Byrne, childhood friends and classmates at Smith College when the crash of '29 changed the world they knew.
In Williams's capable hands, A Hundred Summers' emotionally charged story slips back and forth between a devastating romance gone wrong and a natural disaster of epic proportions. These twin cataclysmic events provide the perfect backdrop for a love story that transcends the romance genre and promises to linger in each reader's memory.
