Monthly book discussion for students entering grades 6-8.

In keeping with our heroic summer reading theme, the title we will be discussing today is "Super Human" by Michael Carroll. When an ancient immortal being with an ability to enslave nations is resurrected in order to launch an age of tyranny, a ragtag group of young heroes, using powers they’ve only just begun to master, become the protectors of humanity's freedom.

You may register and pick up a copy of the book at the 2nd floor reference desk.

If you really, REALLY love to read, our summer reading program is for you!

Summer is a great time to catch up on reading what you love - and to make it more fun, we offer prizes for you to earn along the way.

This year’s theme is “Unmask!” and while we’ll be having programs that are comic related, that aspect can also be applied to whatever novels you choose to read this summer. The heroes and villains in the books you read may be hiding something (their true identities, for example?), or carry around some dark secret that they’re afraid to reveal. You get to decide which titles you want to read that has these elements and submit brief reviews for chances to win our Grand Prize!

Read pages to earn goal level prizes. Read all of your pages? You can still continue to participate in the program by writing reviews and attending events.

  • Each 200 pages logged earns a goal level prize listed below.

  • Each book review submitted earns a ticket in the Grand Prize Drawing.

  • Each Teen Summer Reading Unmask event attended earns a ticket in the Grand Prize Drawing.

Goal level prizes:

1) 200 pages: a “grab bag” gift
2) 400 pages: $5 Planet Pizza or Chicken Joe’s gift certificate
3) 600 pages: An online raffle ticket to the Grand Prize Drawing on August 8

*Goal level prizes 1 and 2 can be picked up after July 1 at the Fine Arts Desk on the second floor of the main library.*

Unmask 2015 Events:

July 11: Comic Book Swap Day (1-3PM)
July 18: Make Your Own Comic Strip Workshop (1-3PM)
July 25: Unmask/Superhero Movie Event: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (1-3:30 PM)

With your permission, we’d also like to post your reviews on our Teen Central Blog to share with other readers. You have the option to allow your real name or a pen name if you want.
The Grand Prize Drawing will be held on August 8th at our Summer Reading Finale Party!

FIRST PRIZE: Kindle Fire

SECOND PRIZE: $50 GamePro Gift Certificate

THIRD PRIZE: $25 Diane’s Books Gift Certificate

Review
I loved this book even more than the first in the series, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Hollow City gets deeper into the affects of wartime on the city of London. I highly recommend this book!  find this in Greenwich Library Catalog
