Join us on the first Tuesday of the month this fall for book discussions led by WCSU history professor Stephen Flanagan. Books will be available to check out one month in advance - ask at the circulation desk! December 6 The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln & American Slavery by Eric Foner Professor Eric Foner has produced a masterful treatment of Abraham Lincoln's, and the nation's, long struggle to come to grips with the root cause of the war, slavery. No consideration of the war, its causes and legacy, can be complete without a thorough examination of the slave question such as Dr. Foner so ably provides in this book. About The Presenter: Stephen Flanagan, a Danbury resident,  is retired from a long career teaching high school history. His enthusiasm for exploring the past remains undiminished. For the past thirty years he has been an adjunct lecturer in the History Department at Western Connecticut State University,
